Accreditation requirements for Canadian engineering schools include non-technical requirements. I had to do mandatory communications/writing, economics, ethics, and professional practice courses as well as a selection of non-technical electives.
The two economics courses I took were awesome. The first was macro-economics and the professor made every example about the price of beer. The second was an Economics for Engineers and it focused on project based economics issues... we had to calculate the cost/price of a human life in an engineering project for both private and public projects as our final exam.
